Dental Anxiety and Fear

Fear of the dentist and dental anxiety keep most people from seeking the care they need. We understand this, and empathize with these feelings of anxiety.

Dental fear often stems from four areas:

  • Fear of embarrassment about dental neglect
  • Fear of pain – often remembered from past experiences
  • Fear of loss of control
  • Fear of unknown costs

One of the most effective ways to deal with fear is to express it – let us know how you feel! You’ll find each of us empathetic and eager to help you turn your anxiety into trust.

Some people are embarrassed about their dental needs – they feel we’ll judge them. Not so! We’re here to help you, and welcome you with open arms. Regardless of how long it’s been since you last had dental care.

We will not cause you pain. Period. We will not begin any treatment until you are thoroughly numb – and we place numbing with great kindness.

Nitrous Oxide is available to assist you in relaxing, as are stereo headphones – or bring your own music to help in relaxation.

We will proceed only when you understand and agree with your treatment. Visuals are great communicators – intraoral photographing is a wonderful tool to help us communicate to you exactly what we’ll be doing and why. Questions? We welcome your questions!

You’ll know your financial responsibility before any treatment is started. We’ll determine any insurance assistance, and let you know your share so there are no unpleasant financial surprises. Care Credit and other financing options are available to help you have the care you need.

If you’d just like to come in and talk with one of our doctors before you schedule anything, that’s fine with us. We’re here to help!
